Today’s route took us from Cortez to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. There was going to be some significant climbing today.  Luckily, soon after we left we were met by Spencer, a member of the Durango Bicycle club.  He escorted us about half way on our ride.  He was quite strong and put a little hurt on us.  Soon after he departed, we were joined by 2 cyclists from Pagosa Springs, Robbie and Morgan.  Robbie was a former bobsled olympian and Morgan was an ultrarunner and cyclist.  They were also great people as well.  We should have know from their friendliness that something good was in store for us.  About 10 miles out of town they has set up a pit stop for us to get our final water and a few snacks.  We then started rolling into town.  People were out all along the main drag.  It looked as if the entire town had come out to greet us.  Phil and I were racing pretty quick as I needed to get him to our final destination quickly as he was doing a remote feed on the Bonnie Hunt Show.  When we got to town they were playing “Eye of the Tiger”.  We arrived at the hot springs and Jenny, from the tourism board, was there with an Amazing Race card to tell Phil about our Pit Stop.  The town had arranged massages for all of us, dinner brought to us from one of the best restaurants in town, passes to the hot springs, and beautiful houses to stay in … at no charge.  It was the greeting to beat all greetings.  I found it funny that people actually wanted to get their picture taken with me (and only one thought that I was Phil).  It was quite inspiring to see how a small town can come together for a great cause.  The best news of the day was that between Phil, myself, and GNC (with GNC doing the most), over $80,000 has been raised for the National MS Society.  Again, a big thanks to those who have donated to the cause!  If you haven’t already, please check Phil’s daily video blogs at
